In observance of Zayed Humanitarian Day

In observance of Zayed Humanitarian Day, Ajman Tourism Development Department (ATDD) launched the “Zayed Humanitarian Day” initiative, which is aimed at training and integrating people of determination in the government and tourism sectors across Ajman.

The initiative is in line with the ATDD’he initiaCSR plans and programs, through which the department aims to fulfil its responsibility towards the community, contributing to integrate people of determination into society.

Following interviews with all candidates, the 4-week internship program started yesterday, 15th June, whereas fifteen Interns were placed in various government and tourism sectors across Ajman.

The initiative was launched under the patronage of Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of Ajman Tourism Development Department, and was announced during an Iftar gathering, in the presence of HE Saleh Mohamed Al Geziry, Director General of ATDD, and a number of directors and senior officials from the government and tourism sector.

HE Saleh Mohamed Al Geziry, Director General of ATDD, said: “We have decided to launch the “Zayed Humanitarian Day” as a valuable opportunity to express our commitment to social responsibility and empowering people of determination with the tools they need to take job opportunities in various government and tourism sectors. This initiative comes in line with the Year of Giving, and is aimed at promoting the culture of giving in future generations, strengthening social security, and achieving solidarity.”

The kick of event was hosted in Al Zorah on Wednesday and attended by all Interns and their families, who gathered for Iftar at the Thanani restaurant, the official sponsor of the evening event.

Amy Siviter-Smith, General Manager of Thanani, said: “Giving back to the community is something that Thanani sees as every corporate organisation’s responsibility, so to be able to play host to a noble initiative conceived by the Ajman Tourism Development Department, marking Sheikh Zayed Humanitarian Day, is a privilege. Extending disabled people the opportunity to take up a one-month internship placement in the hospitality sector is an extremely positive step and hopefully one, that will see more of them finding their way into the work environment.”

To encourage the initiative, the Ajman Executive Council, as well as ATDD, each offered an internship placement, with further positions having been filled in some of Ajman’s leading hotels.

Only through extended support from the Fairmont Ajman, the Ajman Saray, a Luxury Collection Resort, the BAHI Ajman Palace, the Kempinski Hotel Ajman and the Ramada Hotel & Suites, the initiative could successfully be launched, giving an opportunity of empowerment to the people of determination.

Francis Desjardins, General Manager of Fairmont Ajman, quoted: “The integration of people with special needs into everyday society is very important and this is an extremely noble cause which we are happy to support. Whilst this is just the start of the program, we hope that the training we will put in place at the hotel during their internship, will open up more opportunities in the future.”

Furthermore, Iftikhar Hamdani, General Manager of Ramada Hotel & Suites Ajman, said: “Ramada Hotel & Suites Ajman has always been active in various CSR activities in the emirate and we are honoured to be tapped by ATDD in this campaign, in line with Sheikh Zayed Humanitarian Day. We are happy to welcome and provide opportunities to people with disability, and enable them to learn new skills to explore potential careers in the hospitality industry. This will surely be an experience of a lifetime, both for our trainees and our team, and we will ensure to impart valuable knowledge, guide them every step of the way, and make them feel that disability is not a hindrance to success and achieving one’s goal.”

On a final note, Michele Frignani, General Manager of the Ajman Saray, a Luxury Collection Resort, added: “It’s an honor for Ajman Saray, a Luxury Collection Resort, to be part of People of Determination initiative as it gives us the opportunity to improve their skills by placing them in several departments within the resort. We hope this initiative will empower them and enhance their chances of finding employment opportunities in the future. People of determination have abilities too and this is what the initiative is all about. Making sure those abilities blossom and shine so all the dreams that they have can come true.”

ATDD is furthermore collaborating with the Ministry of Community Development, to train people of determination for the future, in order to qualify them to enter the job market.

The training will be concluded in a closing ceremony on the 16th of July, celebrating the successful completion of the internships, thus strengthening their opportunities in finding permanent employment.

Zayed Humanitarian Work Day falls on the 19th day of Ramadan every year in memory of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (May Allah rest his soul in peace), who passed away on this day.
