HAI, UNHCR Sign Agreement Worth AED1 Million To Support Refugees (9 May 2019)

Ajman-based Human Appeal International, HAI, and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, UNHCR, today signed a joint agreement worth AED1 million (US$272,000) in support of refugees and displaced people.

The agreement was co-signed in Ajman by Sheikh Mohammad bin Abdullah bin Sultan Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, HAI, and Khalid Khalifa, Regional Representative of UNHCR in the GCC.

The contribution will provide funding for development projects in Jordan, Lebanon, Niger, and Iraq.

Al Nuaimi stated, "Human Appeal International gives great attention to the plight of displaced persons in areas of distress, and works around the world to identify their needs in light of the deteriorating conditions in a number of poor countries. This contribution comes aligned with the humanitarian work that has been implemented around the world by the UAE in the fields of education, health, social and livelihood."

He also reiterated the commitment of HAI and its interest in alleviating the suffering of refugees and forcibly displaced people in Arab and African countries. With the support of the benefactors, Human Appeal International will be able to continue its support and expenditure to achieve social responsibility at the highest level.

"UNHCR is proud to collaborate with Human Appeal International, a partnership which will support our efforts in responding to pressing humanitarian needs for the most vulnerable refugees through development projects," Khalifa said. "These projects will improve the living conditions of thousands of refugees who struggle to survive the hardships they encounter on a daily basis," he added.

Human Appeal International, established in 1984 in the Emirate of Ajman by an Emiri Decree issued from the court of H.H. Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman, is considered one of the leading organisations in charity and humanitarian fields, and is committed to agreements with International organisations, such as UNHCR, UNICEF and WHO.

This is the first cooperation between the Human appeal international and UNHCR to support forcibly displaced and refugees, amounting to more than 70 million due to war and persecution.
