The Ajman Museum is housed in an 18th C fortress that was used as a stronghold for the Emirates leadership and as a first line of defense. The fort was the ruler's palace and then the Ajman police station. Two wind towers and two watch towers were maintained when the fort was renovated. A large gate and two cannons are located on the front of the fort.

This sightseeing attraction is a must-see for tourists visiting Ajman, as this is regarded as the world’s largest, still active boat building yard and it is also the largest dhow building yard in the emirates. To give background, the term dhow defines: a traditional boat of Arabian origin with one or more lateen sails. Earlier it was used in vogue in trade as well as for war and other maritime purposes. The dhows which were larger in size had about 30 crews and the smaller ones had around 12 crews. The Dhows are ocean-going vessels and they are built using the traditional tools with the manual skills that are not written down in any blueprint but has been handed down from generations. The dhows of Ajman are regarded as the best in quality among the Emirates and the dhow yard is certainly worth a visit as sightseers can witness a dhow being built right before their eyes.

Mowaihat is one of the most famous archaeological sites of the entire United Arab Emirates. At the time of its discovery (in 1986 while new sewage pipe was being laid), the municipal workers discovered a circular tomb which was the style of the Umm al-Nar period. This tomb dates back to 2000 to 2500 BC and is 8.25M in diameter. After the conduction of the excavation, various artifacts were from the site including: soft stones and painted ceramic vessels from the Umm al-Nar period, along with beads, two stamp seals and a number of copper implements. The material form this excavation site forms the bulk of the archaeological artifacts on display in the Ajman museum.
