Ramada Ajman Reaps Crops From Urban Farm (28 May 2013)
Aims to promote sustainable measures in the field of hospitality
A month after launching its first urban farming project, Ramada Hotel & Suites Ajman, harvested vegetables and crops that will be given to the hotel’s kitchen for hotel consumption. As part of the property’s continuous commitment to Wyndham Green Program, urban farming aims to promote sustainable measures in the field of hospitality.
Iftikhar Hamdani, General Manager, Ramada Hotel and Suites Ajman, said: “We are very delighted to harvest the fruits of our labour. Our first yields are rocket leaves, and we plan to work further on this project by growing more crops and possibly increasing the size of the farm. Our team is strongly committed in sustainable projects and we hope that other organisations, especially in the hospitality sector, will also take part in our cause by initiating various green initiatives.”
The 430-square meter urban farm was converted from the property’s vast parking space in April, to coincide with the observance of Earth Day. Abraham Cherian from the engineering department, was assigned as Urban Farm Committee Head who leads the team in looking after the farm during assigned periods to ensure that the crops are well taken care of.
