Ajman Tourism Development Department Launches Tourist Guide Programme (14 December 2014)

Ajman Tourism Development Department today launched its Tourist Guide Programme, the first of its kind in the emirate, with 30 trainees attending.

The English-language programme, in cooperation with Skyline University College and Ajman Transport Corporation, targets a sustainable tourism industry in the emirate by training industry-related workers in various fields to help them obtain a tourist guide license in Ajman, according to Yamina Aoucher, Director of ATDD's Licensing and Tourism Standards, who was speaking at the opening session of the programme at Ajman Museum's Sheikh Humaid Hall.

Out of ATDD's keenness for effective cooperation with its partners, a Memorandum of Understanding will be signed between ATDD and Ajman Transport Corporation to include 100 taxi drivers in the programme in January, she added.

ATDD's cooperation with Skyline University College comes as part of a Memorandum of Understanding signed by the two parties earlier this year, Aoucher noted, adding that by virtue of such an agreement, the College would offer a variety of consultancy services to ATDD, including the Tourist Guide Programme.

The Programme comprises three levels; beginners, UAE nationals and Arabic-language speakers, and professionals who already have their licenses from any UAE emirate, she said. The year 2015 will witness the organisation of about 10 courses for these levels, she concluded.
