TRAC Scores Another First Among Ajman Schools (28 June 2016)

Embraces UAE Year of Reading by holding a ’’Read-a-thon’

The Royal Academy, Ajman, part of the Lazar group of schools, held a read-a-thon ‘Educators at Heart’ recently. The program was organised as part of the Reading Nation campaign initiative by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai to mark 2016 as the UAE Year of Reading. The Royal Academy is the only school in Ajman to participate in the initiative.

The Reading Nation Campaign highlights the importance of children reading in today’s world and hopes to make reading a part of every child’s daily life. It acknowledges that schools play a vital role in the promotion of a reading culture among students, something which is threatened in today’s society. It’s hoped the campaign will instil a love of words and ideas in the younger generation thereby helping them on the path to greater growth and knowledge.

The Royal Academy has been a pioneer in the education field catering for over 36 nationalities in Ajman. The school is dedicated to the development of students’ literary and creative skills, and it is this commitment that led it to embrace the Year of Reading. As part of the read-a-thon, students read in Arabic and English and also donated books to Dubai Cares. Students were also reminded that lack of reading can impair their imagination – one of the greatest gifts they have.

Chairman of the Royal Academy Ajman, Mr. Lanson Lazar spoke to the students about the vital importance of reading for their best development. He mentioned his own love of reading and urged them to read as much as they could not only from books, but also from e-books. “Books are the only gifts that you can open again and again,” he said.

The event was emceed by Headmistress, Ms. Anita Singh, and the guests included the school’s founder, Mr. Daniel Lazar, Chairman Mr. Lanson Lazar, CEO, Ms. Sandra Blaskovic Lazar, and the Dean of Schools Mr. Joseph Khiyalie.
