Ajman Tourism Development Department (ATDD) held Ajman Marathon 2018 on the Ajman Corniche on Friday 19th October. 605 runners from across the UAE, together with people of determination, participated in the event - which started at 6:45 AM and ended at 9:00 AM. The race was attended by Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, chairman of the ATDD, who took part in the marathon as well, and His Exellency Saleh El Geziry, Director General of the ATDD.

The marathon is part of a series of sports and leisure activities and events that ATDD is keen to organise throughout the year in order to boost tourism and position Ajman as the ideal destination for tourism and leisure.

The race was divided into three categories: the first category was 2.5 km; the second was 5 km; and the third – 10 km – was for more experienced runners. ATDD held the marathon on Ajman Corniche, a pleasant place that attracts Ajman’s residents and visitors.

The 10km winners will be honoured with prizes, while all the participants received medals for joining the race and crossing the finish line.

The winners for the 5km and 2.5 km races received first, second and third place prizes for each particular category - these were the categories of Emirati men and women, as well as expat men and women - bringing the total number of winners to 102 participants.

His Excelleny said, “Under the guidance of the wise leadership, ATDD seeks to increase and diversify its offerings in order to promote awareness of Ajman as a tourism destination. We are pleased to organise this marathon, which helps to promote Ajman as the ideal destination for domestic and international tourists to enjoy sports and leisure in a calm, natural environment. We built on the successes of recent years to provide all participants with a unique event.”

He also thanked the sponsors who made the race possible, the audience and participants, mentioning the participation of various sports teams including Du, Adidas, Ajman Police, the civil defence, as well as the General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs in Dubai.

ATDD took all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of the marathon runners by coordinating with Ajman Police’s General Directorate, which accompanied the runners throughout the marathon and took measures to ensure there were no traffic jams or bottlenecks in the area.
