Including a honey festival for the first time in cooperation with Hatta Municipality
The Liwa Ajman Dates and Honey Festival 2019 will be launched on Wednesday. Organised by Ajman Tourism Development Department (ATDD) under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman, the four-day Festival will be held in Emirates Hospitality Center’s Hall from July 31st to August 3rd.
The Festival has established itself as an important destination on the local heritage tourism map. It has become a tourist attraction for the Emirate of Ajman and an annual event for heritage enthusiasts and people interested in the UAE’s produce and dates. With its heritage, cultural and economic dimensions, the Festival aims to enhance Ajman’s position as a destination for exhibitions and event tourism.
Saud Al Jasmi, Head of Events at ATDD, explained that the organisers are keen to ensure that the Festival achieves the objectives for which it was established. The most important objective is to establish palm trees and dates as a symbol of the UAE’s heritage as a means of continuing the pioneering role of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Founder of the UAE, and in accordance with the directives of the wise leadership and its support for festivals and heritage events.
The Festival includes a range of events and fun activities for the whole family in order to celebrate the UAE’s heritage and ancient customs and traditions in a festive atmosphere.
For the first time, the Festival will include Ajman Honey Festival in collaboration with Hatta Municipality, and a display of the finest produce from palm trees in the UAE with dozens of farmers exhibiting the best varieties of dates.
Activities at the Festival will include a Honey Competition and a Citrus Fruit Competition to support farmers and encourage the local production of fruit. There will also be a number of lectures and educational seminars on the importance of agriculture, with particular emphasis on the palm tree’s significant status in the heritage of the UAE. Families and children can learn how to grow and care for the palm tree at workshops in a specially designed children's corner.
The Festival will also include traditional folk shows, a popular market corner, a large area for families to showcase their products, and folk crafts to introduce visitors to the traditions and history of the UAE.
It is worth mentioning that the Liwa Ajman Dates and Honey Festival 2019 is sponsored by a group of distinguished companies, institutions and governmental and private entities, including Al Foah Company – the Festival’s Diamond Sponsor; Cultural Programs and Heritage Festivals Committee - Abu Dhabi, the Gold Sponsor; Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters; Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry; and Timur Liwa.
