ATDD Organises Ajman International Dog Show (4 February 2020)

For the first time, Ajman Tourism Development Department (ATDD) is organising Ajman International Dog Show in cooperation with the Environment and Protected Areas Authority’s Sharjah Kennel Centre. More than 200 purebred dogs of various breeds will participate in the event at Emirates Hospitality Center on February 7th and 8th, 2020.

ATDD is organising the Dog Show as part of its efforts to provide diverse, quality events that help to boost the number of tourists visiting the Emirate. All participating dogs will be evaluated by an FCI-certified expert based on international standards, procedures and regulations.

Visitors will be able to watch a demonstration of Ras Al Khaimah police dogs’ skills in detecting contraband and tracking. They will also learn about the role that dogs played in the UAE’s history; for years, dogs have been bred for security, hunting and to protect people.

HE Saleh Mohamed Al Geziry, ATDD Director General, said, “This Show was organised as part of a series of unique new events and activities on ATDD’s calendar for 2020. These activities, which aim to encourage breeders to focus on purebreds, will attract dog lovers and breeders from across the UAE and abroad.”

“Participation in the Show will be based on FCI-approved standards, which include the purity of the participating dog’s breed, vaccinations and safety procedures to protect the public and the participants. We hope that this will be a valuable new addition to the list of annual events organised by the Department,” His Excellency added.

HE Hana Saif Al Suwaidi, Chairperson of the Environment and Protected Areas Authority (EPAA), said, “In cooperation with ATDD, we have the pleasure of participating in the organisation of this show through Sharjah Kennel Centre (SKC), the first internationally recognised centre in the country to issue pedigree certificates for dogs and organise local and international championships for purebred dogs. SKC specialises in maintaining purebred registration standards. There are 360 purebred dogs registered with SKC.”

“This Dog Show aims to encourage breeders to have authentic strains. One requirement is that participating dogs must be well-known purebreds with up-to-date vaccinations rather than crossbreeds. To ensure integrity, participants must have pedigree certificates and undergo a medical examination,” Mrs Al Suwaidi added.

SKC seeks to preserve the purity of dog breeds by promoting the highest international standards for breeding and issuing pedigree certificates and membership cards to dog breeders in the Emirate.
