Ajman University Reimagines Graduation Ceremony To Ensure Social Distancing & Covid-19 Precautions (2 February 2021)

Ajman University (AU) will hold the Graduation Ceremony for its students in an interesting drive-through format this year, from February 7-10. At a time when universities around the world are cutting down on student experiences and interactions due to the Covid-19 pandemic, AU has chosen this unique format to ensurethat students enjoy the culmination of their year-long academic effortseven while maintaining social distancing norms.

To ensure their safety, all graduating students attending the drive-through ceremony will be required to take the Covid-19 DPI test a maximum of three days prior to the ceremony. Testing facilities are available free of cost to all graduating students within the University campus.

They can collect their graduation gowns beforehand and a mask will also be provided to ensure proper attire and precaution on Graduation Day. After receiving a negative DPI test result, students will be given a sticker which they need to stick on the windshield of their cars.

On the day of graduation, graduating students in proper attire and face mask will be seated in the passenger seat of their cars, be driven intothe campus through a pre-designated gate and park in the slot allotted to them. Students’ families can join them in the car but they have been requested not to get off from the car due to social distancing norms.

As the ceremony begins, students will follow the signs to the Sheikh Zayed Centre where the ceremony will be held. When their turn comes, students will get off their cars, walk on the red carpet to the accompaniment of royal music and collect the graduation certificate from Ajman University Chancellor, Dr. Karim Seghir while posing for a picture next to him.

Commenting on the ceremony, Dr. Karim Seghir, said, “Receiving the graduation certificate on campus is not just a symbolic gesture but an intrinsic part of the student experience at the university. Ajman University wanted to ensure that students enjoy this experience even while respecting social distancing norms required to stay safe during the Covid-19 pandemic. We envisioned this ceremony to facilitate that, and am thankful to all the faculty, staff and students for adhering to the norms and ensuring the success of this event. Congratulations to the graduating students, I wish them a great future ahead.”
