Ajman University Discusses Cooperation with University of Malaya (28 October 2009)
This visit falls within the framework of UM’s openness to Arab universities in the Middle East, which aims to enhance collaboration in the fields of higher education and scientific research.
Welcoming Professor Basri on behalf of AUST were Dr. Ahmed Ankit, Vice-President for External Relations and Cultural Affairs, and Dr. Bahrudin Kadir of the College of Business Administration. Dr. Ankit said that H.E. Dr. Saeed Abdullah Salman, AUST Supreme President, is keen to establish a strong relationship with internationally recognized universities in Malaysia and Asia generally. He added that AUST already has joint agreements with well-reputed universities in Japan and China. Professor Basri affirmed that AUST has established itself as a model university in the UAE and Gulf region.
The two parties agreed to launch mutual training programs for students in the fields of dentistry, pharmacy and engineering. The Vice Chancellor of University of Malaya, Professor Ghauth Jasmon, will visit AUST on November 4th, 2009 to further discuss the specific areas for possible cooperation with the Deans of the four Colleges. In addition, future cooperation in research in these areas will be considered.
It is worth noting that the University of Malaya has recently been ranked 180 in the prestigious Times Higher Education World University Rankings, 2009.
