Ramada Hotels & Suites Ajman Hosts UK’s Spencer Cricket Club (31 December 2009)
Ramada Hotel & Suites Ajman, a premier destination for business and leisure travellers, recently organised a mocktail reception in honour of the United Kingdom’s Spencer Cricket Club. The reception held at the hotel’s Shapes Spa & Health Club was intended to give a warm welcome to the Club’s junior and academic teams, which are touring the UAE for friendly matches.
The mocktail reception was attended by Mazhar Khan, Administrator of the Emirates Cricket Board; Mauro Marzocchi, General Secretary of the Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Ali Jafry, Chairman of AJ Sports, Sardar Azhar Abbas and Tariq Bhatti.
Addressing the young cricket players, Khan said: “The Emirates Cricket Board has played a vital role in developing cricket as a sport in this country. We have hosted many matches in Sharjah, and the entire UAE has become one of the most important venues for cricket games. Still, we need to increase our efforts to promote cricket among other nationalities. The Emirates Cricket Board is hosting the qualifying matches for ICC 20 and we are hopeful that the Emirates team will qualify for the T20 world cup to be held in the West Indies.”
Khan added that he appreciated the Spencer Cricket Club’s visit to the UAE, and he thanked Ali Jafri for organising the tour. Khan also expressed his gratitude to the management of Ramada Ajman for extending full support to the cricket events and for providing first-rate hospitality to the ACC T20 team which previously stayed at the property. He said that the cooperation between the Emirates Cricket Board and Ramada will continue due to their strong ties.
According to Shehab Lotfi, General Manager of Ramada Ajman, “Cricket is such a beautiful game and we will extend full support whenever it is needed by the teams, the Board, or by individuals on tour. I would like to thank the Cricket Board for their full support to Ramada Ajman and I wish the junior players success in their future careers in cricket.”
Iftikhar Hamdani, Ramada Ajman’s Director of Sales & Marketing, said: “The love of cricket as a sport is spreading every where and the game has become even more famous due to the changes in the rules implemented by the ICC. In particular, the T20 format and new technology are deemed beneficial in transforming cricket into one of the world’s most popular sports. “We are happy to hear that cricket is being considered as an event in the upcoming Asian Games in China and we wish to see T20 in the Olympic Games eventually,” he concluded.
