ASPCL Continues Icampaigning Towards Protecting the Environment in Cooperation with Ajman Municipality (4 January 2010)

Ajman Sewerage Private Company Limited announced today the continuation of its intensive campaign that it launched last summer in cooperation and partnership with Ajman Municipality (Public Health and Environment Department), aiming at better management of the trade effluent discharges, as part of its efforts to protect the environment and enhance sustainability.

Talking on the objectives of the campaign, engineer Aisha Al-Abdooli, Technical Services Manager at ASPCL, said: "The campaign is aiming to monitor the quality of the sewage water that is discharged to the sewerage system by the industrial properties and ensuring that it is complying with the acceptable standards and the design parameters. By this a better performance of the process at the treatment plant can be achieved and hence a better quality of treated water. We noticed that the quality of water reaching the main treatment plant does not comply with the raw sewage water standards, which led us to testing sewage water in various locations in the emirate to determine the reasons of the problem. We found out that several industrial facilities discharge their effluent water after industrial processes without preliminary treatment. We also found out that several industrial facilities use ground water in their daily processes, which negatively affects the strategic reserves and changes the quality of sewage water. Based on those findings, we formed a team comprising members from ASPCL and the (Public Health and Environment Department at Ajman Municipality to monitor those facilities and conduct regular testing to their effluent water and taking necessary corrective measures."

"ASPCL is committed to spearheading efforts aiming to realize the vision of "Go Green Ajman ". The campaign objectives include improving the quality of the treated water discharged by the treatment plant, to encourage using that water in irrigation on a wider scale and reduce consumption of ground water, as well as expanding greenery in Ajman," she added. She also explained that it is important to monitor the effluent water from industrial facilities to ensure that it has been preliminarily treated before discharging into the sewage network, asserting that the quality of the water must comprise with the sewage water standards applied in Ajman. This would ensure smooth treatment processes at the main plant as originally designed.

The Ajman Sewage Water Treatment Plant produces an average of 45,000 cubic meters of treated water everyday, which would effectively contribute to realizing the vision of "Go Green Ajman".
