UAE Green Festival 2014 announces official launch of its activities
The UAE Green Festival 2014 was officially launched by the Committee during apress conference held on the 29th of September in Masdar City, in the presence of representatives from government and private organisations participating in the festival.
Held under the theme ’Live, Learn and Have Fun in a Low Carbon World’, UAEGreen Festivalis scheduled to start on the 16th of March and will be the first event of its kind in the UAE and the region - an ambitious step that comes in harmony with the UAE Vision 2021. During the press conference, the organisers outlined the festival’s programme and answered questions about the festival’s different events and activities, key objectives, and the reasons behind launching it.
The festival, which comprises a plethora of entertaining events and environmental activities, will spotlight the UAE’s immense efforts toward ensuring a healthy environment.
The Committee called on all government and private bodies to promote their environmental initiatives and invite experts to the festival, which will offer them a platform to share the best sustainable practices. It also urged members of the community to participate effectively in the festival’s events and activities.A wide range of events and activities aimed at increasing public participation and engagementwill run alongside the festival to encourage an increase in public awareness about the importance of preserving the environment and adopting sustainability as a life style.
Participants in the press conference included representatives from government bodies such as Ministry of Education, the Roads and Transport Authority, Directorate General of Civil Defence, Federal Electricity and Water Authority, Dibba Fujairah Municipality, Ajman Tourism Development Department, andSharjah Commerce and Tourism Development along with sustainable partners such as Masdar, Lexus, Diamond Developers, Emirates NBD, Dubai Properties, BP, Porsche, Emaar, GGICO, Emirates Palace and Shurooq .
Commenting on the festival’s goals, Ms Lamiaa Chlyeh, the Chief Executive Officer at Latest On, said, "The UAE Green Festival mainly aims to support the UAE Vision for sustainability, promote sustainable practices, and forge partnerships with government bodies and corporates that adopt eco-friendly practices and solutions. The Festival is also meant to enable residents and visitors to adopt sustainability practices and preserve the environment, as well as to promote the UAE as a country that is highly committed to the progression towards sustainability, while creating chances for companies and encouraging organisations to adopt best sustainability practices and solutions."
UAE Green Festival is a one month celebration of sustainability. It comprises six main pillars: Green Tourism, Green Life, Green Transpotation, Green Education, Green Technology and Green Energy. The festival aims at addressing all components of the society and highlighting its natural attributes including natural reserves, parks and all green attractions. UAE Green festival will bid an unprecedented experience for residents and tourists who will get engaged in an environmental escapade. A list of entertaining and educational activities will cover all the emirates to make the UAE a leading sustainable destination.
